Objectives

Spiritual

  1. To encourage each student to develop a personal faith and relationship with Jesus Christ through knowledge and discussion of the Scriptures.
  2. To instill in each student the desire to demonstrate the Christian virtues of love, kindness, unselfishness, patience, cooperation, honesty and a joyful spirit.
  3. To develop in each student an understanding of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and to educate them to become active members of their church and community.
  4. To provide opportunities to apply these spiritual principles in their class work, interactions with their peers, and inhome and community service.

Educational

  1. To encourage each student to think independently and creatively.
  2. To develop in each student the ability to cope with the practical problems of life.
  3. To instruct each student in the academic areas in a manner which nurtures cooperative and enthusiastic learning with an emphasis upon the process of learning, individual expression and creativity.
  4. To facilitate learning, which involves problem solving, critical thinking, application of knowledge, analysis and self-evaluation. This learning will be enhanced by projects, experiments, field trips, and the creative arts. In addition to the traditional subject areas, Estabrook offers opportunities in gardening, missionary/community projects, school choir and music, a second language, ski program, and involvement with community events.

Social

  1. To provide opportunities for the development of leadership and cooperative qualities.
  2. To teach social skills such as courtesy, consideration for others, respect for differing opinions and beliefs, positive group interaction skills, and respect for authority.
  3. To train students to exercise self-control and self-discipline.

Physical

  1. To teach and exemplify the principles of healthful living and temperance.
  2. To provide students with an awareness of the close relationship between spirit, mind, and body.
  3. To instruct children in sound principles of nutrition. Excessive sweets, caffeinated beverages, and junk foods are discouraged. The use of "clean" foods which is outlined in Leviticus 11 is requested as is customary in the lifestyle of Seventh-day Adventists.
  4. To provide students with opportunities to develop physical fitness skills that will be beneficial throughout their lifetime.
